Some competition roles carry an official certification. Certifications are defined and issued by VEX / Global Robotics — not by gainingSTEAM — so the authoritative list is always theirs. What we do is track yours, so Event Partners can staff certified roles confidently.
What's available right now
For the current VEX IQ season (Level Up), one certification is available so far:
- IQ Level Up: Head Referee and Scorekeeper Referee Certification — for anyone taking a head referee or scorekeeper referee role. The short version: create a VEX PD+ account, complete the certification course, and your certificate lives in VEX PD+ to share with event organizers.
Global Robotics releases additional certifications over the season — check their library for the current set rather than relying on any list here.
Recording your certification with us
Once you've earned a certification, add it on your profile under certifications. That's what lets a local Event Partner see at a glance that their referee crew is covered.
Do I need one to volunteer?
No — the vast majority of volunteer roles need no certification at all. Certifications matter for the referee track (and more roles as GR releases them); if that's where you're headed, budget an evening for the course.
