Setting up the Level Up game elements

Placing this season's VEX IQ game elements on a built field, from the pyramid corners to the starting bean bags.

This guide is for the 2026–27 VEX IQ game, Level Up. Start once the field is built and checked. The game elements come out of the trailer first, so they should already be inside on the cart.

The game manual is the authority on where everything goes. This guide shows what the finished field looks like and how our kit is packed. For exact positions, use the field diagrams in the current VEX IQ game manual.

The pyramid corners

Each field has a red and a blue pyramid corner, built from three stepped levels marked L1, L2 and L3. They travel in their own boxes.

  1. Unpack one field's pyramid corners at a time, so pieces from different sets don't get mixed up.
  2. Place each pyramid corner in its corner of the field, red and blue on the sides shown in the manual's diagram.
  3. Check each level sits flat on the one below it.

The other game elements

  • The goals and their bases in the middle of the field.
  • The two yellow barriers.
  • The bean bags (red, blue and yellow) in their starting positions, with the spare bean bags outside the field where the diagram shows them.

The bean bags

Each field's bean bags travel in their own drawstring bag: 16 red, 16 blue and 6 yellow. One bag sets up one field.

A field's set of bean bags laid out beside their drawstring bag: 16 red, 16 blue and 6 yellow

  1. Use one drawstring bag per field, and don't mix bean bags between fields.
  2. Place the bean bags as the diagram shows.
  3. Put the empty drawstring bag into that field's pyramid corner box. At teardown, the crew will find it there.

Before you call it done

  • Compare the field against the top-down diagram, element by element.
  • Count the bean bags on and around the field against the manual.
  • Ask the Head Referee to look it over. They will check it before the first match anyway, and it's quicker to fix now.
