Following the success of the fall 2018 Girl Powered Build Day at Henry Doorly Zoo, gainingSTEAM reached out to participating families with an invitation: come watch the first Omaha area VEX IQ Robotics Competition.
On Saturday, November 10, 2018, over 35 Omaha area teams competed in the VEX IQ Robotics Challenge at Mary Our Queen Gym. The event ran from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and was completely free to attend as a spectator.

The competition was fast-paced and exciting, with teams putting the same VEX IQ equipment to work that Girl Powered participants had used at the zoo a month earlier — now built into full robots tackling challenges in creative and inventive ways. For any girl who had just experienced building her first robot, watching peers use that same technology in competition was a powerful reminder of where that spark could lead.
At gainingSTEAM, our goal is to showcase STEM opportunities for girls in the area and encourage them to take advantage. Spectator events like this one are an important part of that mission — early and often.
