Common Questions

How do we qualify for the Nebraska / Iowa VEX IQ Regional?

Similar to the prior year, all registered VEX IQ teams in Iowa and Nebraska were eligible for the VEX IQ Regional Championship. The Regional Championship venue was sized to handle all teams in the region.

Will there be a qualification process in the future?

Yes. As the region grew and the number of VEX IQ teams increased, a qualification process would become necessary. For the 2017-18 season, there was enough capacity to accommodate all teams.

When does registration open?

Registration opened on January 5th, after the REC Foundation announced any bonus World Championship spots. With the region's growth trajectory, a bonus spot was likely — and bonus spots would affect how World Championship qualification awards were structured before registration opened.

Elementary and Middle School Divisions

Ideally, elementary and middle school teams would compete in separate competitions. The challenge was that the region hadn't yet passed the 16-team threshold in each division — the threshold required to function as a qualifier for each age group independently.

Based on the interest and growth being seen in Iowa and Nebraska, separate elementary and middle school competitions were expected to be a reality within the next season or two. Programs that encouraged new teams to form were directly contributing to reaching that milestone.
