Session 2 of the Omaha area VEX IQ League Play for the 2022-23 Slapshot season was held at Mary Our Queen School (MOQ). This note went out to coaches ahead of the session with venue details, volunteer needs, and a set of important game rule clarifications.

Venue

The session was hosted in the Mary Our Queen School gym. Parking was available in the large lot on the east side of the building, with the gym entrance at the south end. Concessions were available, offering breakfast food, snacks, and drinks — proceeds benefiting equipment used for future tournaments and league play events.

Volunteer Help Needed

gainingSTEAM put out a call for volunteers ahead of the session. Volunteers are essential to running 47+ matches in an evening.

Game Rule Clarifications

Several rules came up after Session 1 that coaches needed to address with their teams:

Robot Size Limits (G13)
Teams must be touching the contact zone in order to expand beyond the 11×15×19 inch size limit.

Field Boundary Rules (G14)
Robots are not allowed to extend beyond the fence — either below or above. Inspectors noted some robots and scoring bars going underneath the fence during Session 1.

Disc-Over-Bar Rule (G16)
Teams that cause discs to go over the bar are disqualified. Because this is inherently score-affecting, all violations are treated as Major Violations.

Keep Growing

gainingSTEAM encouraged coaches to share these updates with any new coaches in their programs — and to update contact preferences if their program had changed hands. The goal was to ensure every team had access to the best resources possible for their students.
