VEX IQ is growing quickly in Nebraska. The 2023 Nebraska VEX IQ State Championship brought 40 teams to Gross Catholic High School for the culminating event of the 2022-23 Slapshot season.

Separate tournaments were held for Elementary and Middle School divisions.
Awards & Judging
Judging was an important part of the REC Foundation program, giving students opportunities to practice written and verbal communication skills. All judging — including team interviews and engineering notebooks — was conducted in person on the day of the event. Teams brought a physical copy of their notebook to submit to judges.

Volunteers
gainingSTEAM aimed to build a team of dedicated volunteers to give students the best championship experience possible. No previous experience was required for most volunteer roles. Full-day volunteers received a lunch ticket; all volunteers received snacks.

Bringing Your Competition Field
Teams and coaches with VEX IQ competition fields and game sets were encouraged to bring them for the State Championship. More fields meant more practice time for teams to collaborate before their official matches. Fields could be dropped off on Friday, February 10th (8:30–9:30 PM) or brought early Saturday morning.
